New chair of the Norwegian Society of Composers

Composer and artistic researcher, Knut Olaf Sunde, was elected as new chair of the Norwegian Society of Composers at this year’s general meeting on the 10th of June, after Jørgen Karlstrøm who has served for 8 years.

Knut Olaf Sunde has his education from the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Academy of Music in Gothenburg.

Sunde’s PhD project “Site Awareness In Music–recontextualizing sensation of another place (NMH 2020) looks at how context and place influence our perception and interpretation of music.

The composer:
Sunde often combines recordings of material composed for acoustic instruments with processed, synthesized material and soundscapes. His work “Himdalen” was nominated for the Edvard Prize in 2019 in the challenger category, and the album “VertigoRoom” was nominated for the Spellemann Prize in 2018 in the contemporary category.

Position of trust:
Knut Olaf Sunde was deputy chairman and treasurer of UNM Norway 2000-2006, chairman of nyMusikk’s Composers Group 2001-2004, deputy chairman of the Norwegian Composers Association 2006-2012, board member of the Norwegian Composers Fund 2007-2013. of TONO’s distribution committee from 2019 and board member of the Norwegian Composers Association from 2021-2024. On Tuesday 11 June, he was elected as a board member of TONO.

As chairman of the Norwegian Composers Association (NKF), Knut Olaf Sunde is a council member of the Nordic Composers Council and is NKF’s representative in ECSA.
